About Bhutan

Thunder Dragon land, Bhutan is only Himalayan Kingdom of South Asia. It's a landlocked country surrounded by Tibet, Indian states Assam and West Bengal. It is located in the heart of Himalayas. With a tiny territory of 38,394 Square Kilometer it has complex geographical landscape ideal for trekking. Thick forests, snow-fed rivers and alpine valleys with Himalaya Sherpa culture and people it’s the best trekking destination to experience Himalayas, Nature and Himalayan culture.

With sub-tropical foliage to Alpine forests its elevation varies 200 meters in the south up to 7000 meters of Himalayan Region. Kula Kangri, with 7,553 meters is the highest pick and its about 70 % territory is colored natural green by forests. Bhutan is listed on top 10 biodiversity hot spots of the World. There is an estimation of 770 species of birds along with wild animals like Tiger, elephant, Snow Leopard etc. Another attraction of Bhutan is Temples, Dzongs and Monasteries. Bhutanese identity caters with monasteries and Sherpa cultures.

The country is divided on three regions namely Central region that comprises Trongsa, Bhumthang, Chumey, Chokehar, Tang and Ura; Eastern region that includes Mongar, Luentse, Trashi Yangtse and Sengor valley; and Western region includes Haa valley, Paro valley, Thimphu, Punakha valley. Cultivated inner moorlands and Himalayan foothills support the majority of the population. Bhutan has remained a hidden Kingdom since a long time. These days it opened door for tourism setting fixed daily tariff through Department of Tourism, Bhutan. Rates are same for cultural tours and trekking and unfeasible to negotiate on that. Capturing Photograph and Movie are not allowed some places.

The minimum tariff for tourist visiting in a group of 3 persons or more is as follows:

High Season Tariff – US$ 200 per person per night halt ( February, March, April, May, August, September, October, November and December).

Low Season Tariff – US$165 per person per night halt (January, June, July).

Geography

The tiny Kingdom of Bhutan lies hidden in the folds of the eastern Himalayas sandwiched between the two giant countries of India in the south and China in the north. With a total territory of 38,398 sq kilometers, a mountainous country except for a small flat strip in the southern foothills. In the north bordered with Tibet and Indian state Indian states Assam and West Bengal landlocked it.

North territory of Bhutan is dominated by Himalayas where peaks reach the height of 7,000 meters; highest point in Bhutan is Gangkhar Puensum, which has the distinction of being the highest unclimbed mountain in the world, at 7,570 meters.

Culture

Thunder Dragon Bhutan has taken Mahayana Buddhism as a state religioin. Bhutanese people strictly follow traditional costumes and manner. Bhutan is isolated country to protect own traditional culture and religious happenings from other cultural influences. From its strict isolationism, culturally Bhutan is successful to preserve its cultural heritage. It's similar with Tibet culturally in many aspects like language, dress and Himalayan ethnicity. Old forts, palaces, monasteries are the icon of Bhutanese culture.

Climate

Bhutanese atmosphere varies notably with altitude and location. Mainly three broad climatic zones found in Bhutan: Subtropical south, Pleasant central and alpine north. Considerable water drops on monsoon season from June to September. Weather may differ dramatically in different locations and in 24-hours periods. Bhutan becomes gorgeous on spring. After monsoon time is popular and perfect to make a trip.

Food

Bhutanese cuisine completes with rice, a dish of chili and cheese known as Ema Datshi, pork or beef curry or lentils. Traditional buttered tea with "Zaw" (puffed rice) is popular set.
